Prior to prescribing Accutane to a woman, the doctor will ask her to sign a consent form and undergo a blood test to make sure that she is not pregnant (this test will be administered monthly while she is taking the drug). In addition the doctor will advise the woman to use two forms of birth control simultaneously while taking Accutane.
