Legal Rights
Laws exist to protect the citizens of a country, state, or community. They represent rules of conduct and provide citizens the means to collect compensation if injured by another person (or entity) who has broken the law.
Types of Law
Several different types of law exist, including personal injury law, criminal law, family law, aviation law, admiralty law, and HMO law.
- Personal Injury Law - this type of law seeks to recover damages for victims of physical or mental injury that have occurred due to the action (or inaction) of another.
- Criminal Law - this type of law refers to laws that define the limits of conduct within a society.
- Family Law - this type of law deals with issues that involve the family, including divorce, child custody, and adoption.
- Aviation Law - this type of law involves the regulation of aircraft and their facilities (airports, etc.).
- Admiralty Law - this type of law involves the regulation of navigation and shipping.
- HMO Law - this type of law deals with issues that involve health management organizations.
- Pharmaceutical Litigation - this type of law deals with defective or dangerous drugs, such as Vioxx. Vioxx was recalled in September after it was determined to increase the risk of heart attack and stroke in users.
